LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Communities in Senate District 22 will receive over $2.1 million to improve roads and bridges through the Community Crossings Matching Grant Program, Sen. Ron Alting said in a news release Thursday.
The grant program, founded in 2016 by the Indiana General Assembly, works to finance community infrastructure, strengthen local transportation networks and improve Indiana’s roads and bridges, the release said. Since its establishment, the program has awarded more than $1.8 billion in state matching funds for local construction.
Grant recipients for the recent $2.1 million allotment include Carroll County, receiving $129,187.50, Dayton, receiving $495,750, and Tippecanoe County, receiving $1.5 million.
“As the Crossroads of America, Indiana knows the important role quality roads and bridges play in maintaining a strong economy,” Alting said in the release. “The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program is a great tool for local governments across the state, and I commend the leaders in Dayton and Carroll and Tippecanoe counties for applying for this funding.”
The grant program offers two rounds of applications each year, with the next call for applications occurring in January of 2025, the release said. Through the program, the Indiana Department of Transportation matches up to $1.5 million annually when localities invest in road and bridge repairs.
Counties with populations fewer than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations fewer than 10,000 receive a 75%/25% match, the release said, while counties with populations greater than 50,000 and cities and towns with populations greater than 10,000 receive a 50%/50% match.
