HUEYTOWN, Ala. (WBRC) – Hueytown Police have arrested a 16-year-old from Bessemer in a double shooting.

A man and a juvenile were shot in the parking lot of River Square Plaza on Feb. 4. Police say they were there to meet someone.

Detectives were immediately given the name of a possible suspect who did not live in Hueytown. They went to Gadsden on Feb. 12 and arrested the 16-year-old who was taken to the Hueytown City Jail.

Detectives obtained multiple felony warrants on the teenager including two counts of attempted murder.

Due to the nature of the crime, the juvenile is being charged as an adult and is awaiting transfer to the Jefferson County Jail. The juvenile’s name will not be released. Police say the suspect and the victims knew each other and at one point were acquaintances. Detectives believe that there are more suspects involved and more arrest are possible.

“This is another example of criminals coming to our city and thinking they can not only commit these serious crimes but also get away with it. Our detectives have worked around the clock to bring this suspect to justice and will continue to work this case until all subjects are identified. It is still unclear to detectives why all parties, who do not live in the City of Hueytown, chose to come to Hueytown. However, one thing is clear and that is we will not tolerate such violence in our community, and we will work tirelessly to bring those who think they can come to our city and commit crimes to justice,” said Hueytown Police Chief Mike Yarbrough.
